Can Medication For BP Cause Cramps In Leg?

I am 62 and been on blood pressure medicine 5 mg for 6 years . My current blood pressure is 120 over 65 . I was getting leg cramps in one leg that wouldn t go away. I think the blood pressure medicine is the reason. I had to stop cholestorel due to inflammation . My blood pressure dropped twenty points after going off cholestorel medicine. I believe I don t need the blood pressure medicine now. What is your opinion?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Yes, certain blood pressure medications can cause cramps in the legs as a side effect. It's important to discuss any symptoms or concerns with your doctor, as they can evaluate whether the medication is causing your leg cramps and if switching to a different medication or adjusting the dose would be appropriate.

However, it is not recommended to stop taking the medication without the advice and supervision of a healthcare professional, as abrupt changes in medicine can have severe consequences for your health and blood pressure.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
