Can Leg Cramps Be Caused By Low Potassium Level?

What causes leg cramps? It is a low potassium level? The other night I had a cramp that was so bad it woke me up from a dead sleep. Something is wrong with mycomputer too, it erases everything I type. Sorry I have to keep starting all over again! Do you know what the cause is of that too? (A virus) :)

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Low potassium (hypokalemia) will not cause cramps instead it might cause weakness.

Consult a physician and get evaluated to rule out other causes. Dehydration might cause cramps.

As of now drink plenty of water and take absolute bed rest.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
