Can Laxatives Be Given To A Child For Constipation?

My 10 year old daugher is always constipated. When she does manage to open her bowels, usually every 4-5 days, the movements are very large and painful. She then complains of lover abdominal pain for several hours afterwards. I have tried to get her to take more fruit and plenty of fluids but this doesn t seem to make any difference. Is it safe to use a laxative/stool softener?

Hi, welcome to HCM. Can understand your concerns. Laxatives can given to a child only after examination by doctor. It should not be given without prescription. Take care.
