Can Intake Of Citalopram Result In Excess Gas And Nervous Stomach?

After I eat I constantly have rumbling and gas and pressure constantly down in rectum area, so disturbing to the point I don t want to eat anything. I take Dicyclomine to help about 30 minutes prior to eating but not working very good. I also started taking Citalopram and wondering if that is causing excess gas and nervous stomach?

Hello,

Citalopram use may cause problems with the gatrointestinal system like diarrhea and gas. It is a side effect of it.Maybe you can talk with your doctor and he can give you some tablets to help with the bowel irritation like espumisan to help reduce the gas in the bowel and also taking fiber with diet and probably as supplement might help.

If still not comfortable are really bothered by this side effect of citalopram you might talk with your doctor on the need to change it with another medication.

I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
