Can Hiatal Hernia Cause Twinges In Lower Abdomen?

I am having twinges in my lower right abdomen and sometimes my left side too. Mostly my right side. Seven months ago I had surgery- bilateral salpingo oophorectomy. It went well. These twinges started about 3 weeks ago. Also I have diarreah. Went to gyn. Had cat scan with contrast. He said it was normal but he saw a small hernia and to check with reg Md. I know I have a small hiatal hernia. Would this be what is causing the twinges in my lower abdomen?

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

Yes,it could be possible that your hiatus hernia is causing this twinges feeling because in this hernia, the protruding part might cause compression over diaphragm leading to irritation of pleural tissue.

It may also cause wheezing or shortness of breath,so if you have also this kind of symptoms then we can suspect it could be related to hiatus hernia.

This mechanism might be the reason of your wheezing and it can also cause dull chest pain occasionally.

Usually it is not serious but consult your doctor if it troubles you more.

Regards.
