Can Having Dental Implants Be Safe While On Fosamax?
I take 5 mg of fosomax and have for many, many years. Last year I had back surgery. I do not have teeth and want dental implants. Without testing, one dentist told me no. My doctor said with the dosage I am taking that he saw no danger for me with implants. What do you suggest?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that Fosamax containing active ingredient Alendronate that isa biphosphonate and is seen to have a serious side effect especially on the jaws known as Jaw Osteonecrosis.. It is seen that the process of Osteonecrosis is more severe or at times starts after a dental treatment and can lead to severe bone necrosis.. So every dentist will advise you not to go for dental treatment especially that is invasive like implant that needs drilling the bone to screw an implant inside the bone.. So even I would suggest you to go for treatments like Removable dentures that will not need invasive dental procedures.. In case if you still want an implant first get a bone density test done and only after a proper assurance and confirmation only proceed with the treatment otherwise not..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
