Can Gout Attack Or Motrin Medication Cause Elevated Blood Pressure?

I went to the doctor today for a gout attack..found that my blood pressure was elevated..170/100 .never had a problem with high bp. Ive take High amounts of motrin for the last 10 days for pain and i also have a abcess/ infected tooth. Could the swelling and pain from gout plus the motrin and infection cause elevated blood pressure?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Motrin can cause nausea, vomiting, heartburn, gastritis, stomach ulcer, bleeding and kidney dysfunction on prolonged use.

It may increase blood pressure only on prolonged use but not to the extent of causing severe hypertension (BP: 170/100 mm Hg).

Probably you might have had high blood pressure before taking treatment for gout and dental abscess.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
