Can Going Off Paxil Taken For Anxiety And Panic Attacks Cause Illness?

My son was prescribed Paxil for anxiety and panic attacks. He is 17. He became suicidal and said it made things worse. Was suicidal and went to the hospital twice. Our doctor stopped the paxil cold turkey and he had been on it 5 months. My son seen a phychiatrist who prescribed fluoxetine and clamazapen. 10mg of the prozac and .5 clamazapen in the mornings. He was off the paxil for 2 and a half weeks. He has only been on the new meds for 4 days and he has anxiety and panic. Is this withdrawl from paxil or new meds making him ill.

Hello

Thanks for asking a question at HCM

I understand your concern and I will be glad to answer it for you.

I don't think it is the withdrawl causing you the symptoms. As the other drugs given by the doc can replace the action of paxil.

It takes at least 2 weeks for the body to adjust with new drugs and for the side effcets of the combination to subcide. So wait for 10 more days, and he will be fine

Hope this helps!

Best Regards
Dr Chaithanya
