Can Face Be Washed While Using Bactroban Post Facial Cauterization?

I have just finished a facial cauterization for my warts 12 hours ago. Now, I understand that the reason for not washing my face is to prevent secondary infections. But with how polluted the area is that I am currently in and with all the sweat I am having due to the hot weather (I live in the Philippines and the climate fluctuates from 30C-32C), it stings my cauterized areas. Now, I have some left over Bactroban cream that I used for my last surgery (laceration of a boil to be specific) that is not even halfway finished and is not expired. If I wash my face today (I am so tempted to as it is getting irritated from the sweat), will the application of Bactroban help in preventing secondary infections? Or should I not wash my face alltogether, endure the irritation and wait for a couple of days?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is generally recommended to avoid washing the face for at least 24 hours after facial cauterization to reduce the risk of infection. However, if you are experiencing significant discomfort and irritation due to sweat, it may be necessary to gently wash your face with mild soap and water.

As for the application of Bactroban cream, it is important to consult with your healthcare provider to determine if it is appropriate for use after facial cauterization. Bactroban is an antibiotic ointment used to treat bacterial skin infections, and its use may depend on the severity of your cauterization and the risk of infection. Your healthcare provider can provide specific guidance on how to care for your skin after the procedure and whether the use of Bactroban is appropriate for you.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
