Can Anesthesia Cause Medullary Paralysis?

my husband just died from these four things written on the death certificate1.me dually paralysis2.cardiopulmonary arrest3.hepatorenal failure4.metastatic colon carcinoma. He was 61years young. He was doing fine and went to the hospital to remove fluid buildup around the stomach. When it was drained and he came to his room he was not the same man. Is it possible the too much anesthesia was used to cause him to have medullary Paralysis? I read up on this and he had all the symptoms after he had the fluid drained.
