Can Adverse Effects Of Female Hormonal Imbalance Be Misdiagnosed As A Mental Disorder?
How is it GP's fail to recognise female hormonal conditions when they are so common? How is it when a women asks to be referred to a womens health specialist they are refused because the GP thinks their problem is mental health? How is it some female hormonal conditions are often misdiagnosed a mental health conditions?
Hormonal changes in women are known to cause mood swings. Mostly seen before periods which is known as premenstrual dysphoria. It is common and doesn't always require psychiatric intervention. Now if your GP thinks that person requires psychiatric consultation, then there can be some symptoms which made him think of that. If you don’t want to consult psychiatrist then I would suggest you get second opinion from some other GP and if he also feels same then better take her to psychiatrist for intervention.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Prashant Gohil
