Can A Cancerous Tumor In Lung Be Treated By Shrinking It?
Hi mu dad of 72 years old just been for xray and scan on is body they say theres a shadow on his lung and a tumour there and said its 99% cancer now they cant remove my lung because its in a wrong place he s having a biopsy today they said they could shrink it what will they treat mu dad with and how long could je live
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Some of the tumours in the lung region (mediastinal tumours) can be shrunken with use of chemotherapy (cytotoxic drugs) along with radiotherapy (radiation), if necessary. The mode of treatment depends on the biopsy report after histopathological examination of the biopsy specimen. If chemotherapy and radiotherapy can be instituted for such type of cancers, it will be given in cycles for over a period of 6 months to 1 year. Survival depends on the nature of tumour and response to the treatment. Kindly consult Oncologist with the report for appropriate management. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
