Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i weigh 256 lbs. I am 5 1. My doctor suggested i go on victoza because i have tried so hard to lose weight and i cant seem to lose much. i have almost been starving my self but still cant get it off . I am 62 but i cant exercise much due to ddd and radical stenosis. i am disabled. I drink six bottles of water a day and only eat small amounts of food. how much can this victoza help me.
Yes, it can be taken as prescribed by your doctor. Victoza (Liraglutide) is a long-acting glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist that is primarily used together with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
It is also used to help you lose weight when used at a higher dose than is usually used in diabetes. It has been shown to effectively reduce 8%-10% of body weight at 56 weeks.
Generally, it is well tolerated, however its most common side effects include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Serious adverse effects although rare may include acute pancreatitis, acute gallstone disease and an increased risk of thyroid cancer. So, in view of the above, you may take this medication under the supervision of your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
