Hi & Welcome.
It is not effective in reducing the high cholesterol levels hence not used in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia.

Ursocol (Ursodeoxycholic acid) is basically prescribed for the dissolution of small to medium sized radiolucent, cholesterol-rich gallstones in patients with a functional gallbladder or patients in whom surgery is contraindicated or who are anxious to avoid surgery.oning gall bladder.

High blood cholesterol is a major risk factor for the heart disease which needs to be treated with medications and certain lifestyle modifications.

Drugs like Atorvastatin or Simvastatin are effective in reducing the high blood cholesterol level as they decrease the production of cholesterol in the liver.

Lifestyle changes that help in reducing high cholesterol level include:

1. Avoiding smoking, alcohol, fatty meals, fast and junk foods.
2. Eating home cooked food, increasing the intake of fruits and vegetables
3. Doing regular exercise, loosing the body weight if you are overweight.

So, consult a physician for further evaluation and treatment.

Hope this will help.
