Can Soma Be Given To An Elderly Woman For Fibromyalgia?

I am a 63 yr old woman who has just undergone extensive neurosurgery. I have been using Some for muscle relaxation due to fybromialgia and dystonia. I recently read that Soma is not for use in elderly patients due to detrimental effects. Will you clarify please? Thank you

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Soma is a muscle relaxer that is well indicated in the treatment of painful musculoskeletal conditions. However, it may have severe side effects, especially those that affect vision and mental status. I will not say you may not use this drug since your Doctor will never prescribe without evaluating its risks and benefits. When the use of muscle relaxants such as Soma cannot be avoided in an elderly patient, physicians will prescribe the lowest dose that treats the pain for the shortest amount of time possible.
You may take the drug as prescribed by your Doctor for the said duration.
Hope this will help
Wish you good health
