Can Ranitidine Cause Heart Palpitations?
I have taken generic ranitidine for several years. Sometimes two 325 mg. tablets a day - one after lunch and one at night. I was recently diagnosed with paroxysmal atrial tachycardia. I recently re-read the information I received with the first prescription and only then noticed that ranitidine can cause a fast heartbeat. I have stopped taking the ranitidine, but i apparently have incessant tachcardia because my heartbeat is continuously harder than normal. Not faster, just a harder heartbeat. I get an echocardiogram tomorrow (10/19) for further diagnosis. Is it possible that the ranitidine has caused permanent damage to my heart?

Ranitidine may cause an increased heart rate. However this is not common and not a concern. There is no evidence to suggest that Ranitidine may cause any permanent cardiac damage. So Ranitidine is not the culprit. Still we do not recommend it's long tern use without need.
