Can Preparation H Multi-Symptom Cream Be Used While On Lisinopril/HTCZ?

Hi - Does Lisinopril/HTCZ interact with Preparation H Multi-sympton Cream (active ingredients gycerin, pheylephrine HCI, Parmoxine HCI, White Petrolatum)? Want to treat a bleeding hemmorhoid but the label says check with doctor if you are on blood pressure medicine.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Preparation-H maximum strength pain relief cream is commonly prescribed for relief from pain, burning, itching, and discomfort associated with hemorrhoids or other anal conditions. It is meant for local application to the affected area. One of the ingredients phenylephrine can increase the blood pressure.

However, there is as such no contraindication for the use of this cream as long as your BP is well controlled by Lisinopril/HCTZ. However in certain hypertensive patients, one of the ingredients of this cream (Phenylephrine) can increase the blood pressure.

The BP can be monitored at home if you have a BP apparatus. If the BP does not rise high enough then you should not bother.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
