Can Phenylephrine Be Taken While On Lorazepam, Amitriptyline And Oxycodone?

My wife takes Lorazepam 0.5mg, Amitriptyline 25mg, and Oxycodone oral solution 5mg at bedtime every night (cancer patient) and tolerates them very well. She has developed head cold symptoms and her runny nose is really irritating her. Can she take Phenylephrine HCl 5mg or 10mg to try to slow her nasal drainage down long enough to get to sleep?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for your question.
Phenylephrine can be taken with lorazepam and oxycodone.
But phenylephrine should not be used with amitriptyline except in cases of emergency. If your doctor wants you to take this combination a dosage adjustment may be necessary.
So I will suggest ask your wife to take loratidine instead.
I hope it helps.
Please feel free to write to me if there is any confusion.
Thanks,
Dr.Verma
