Can Norethisterone Be Taken Without A Doctor S Prescription?
Hi my daughter is scheduled to attend a competition to which she will be on her period for (due to start this Friday) I have some Norethisterone that I had prescribed for me previously. I know you shouldn t give others your prescribed medication but its been impossible to get a doctors appointment at my gp and the time is ticking. She has no known allergies and is fit and well. She will be 14 next month but I just wanted to know if she was old enough or able to take the medication? Many thanks. I look forward to your response.
You can give norethisterone to your 14 years old daughter without hesitation. But keep salient points in mind :
You have to give morning and evening after meals for 4-5 days and then stop it. Once you discontinue it, she will have breakthrough bleeding after 3-4 days of the last dose.
So meticulously plan the drug intake in accordance with that only.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Purva Patel, General & Family Physician
