Can Meclizine Be Taken After Consuming Alcohol?

i am taking Meclizine for vertigo (only for a couple of weeks). Yesterday, I took a double dose because I had vertigo all day and night. Is it OK to use alcohol in moderation while taking Meclizine? Will it affect vertigo, or will it merely make me sleepy?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Meclizine causes sedation and drowsiness as a side effect. Alcohol may increase drowsiness and sedation while you are taking meclizine. Therefore both meclizine and alcohol are not recommended simultaneously. Alcohol along with meclizine might jeopardize your alertness.
Advice
1.     Continue meclizine as suggested by your doctor
2.     Avoid alcohol along with meclizine
3.     Avoid driving, swimming and operating machinery requiring mental alertness
I hope this information will help you. I will be happy if you ask another question
Thanks
