Hello,
Marinol is usually used as an option for those patients who are taking
chemotherapy and have failed to respond adequately to conventional antiemetic treatments, so it may be an option for your family member.
However, as all medications do have side effects, this may cause adverse effects including
nausea. It is an anti-nausea medication, but a small portion of patients do develop nausea from taking this medication.
The other thing to be aware of is that Marinol addictions are considered to be rare, but they still occur.
It is also important to confirm current medications that your family member is taking at this time because you want to make sure this does not interfere with the other treatment she is taking.
If your family member is taking mental health medications such as an antidepressant or has a psychiatric medical condition, it is recommended to avoid in patients with a psychiatric history.
You may want to discuss further with her PCP before making further decision.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
