Can MRSA Infection Be Effectively Managed By Tetracycline?
Thank you. I have a history of staph aureus in my right sinus. It wa treated with multiple operations and antibiotics including 5 years on cefadroxil, cipro and clindamycin. I each for a full month and then a month off. That finally worked leaving me with normal sinus issues. I severely fractured by tibia in January requiring surgery and 13 pins. Starting about a month ago the sinus infection started again and the diagnosis wa MRSA this time. Is this something that will stay where it is and allow tetracycline to stop it? I m allergic to Bactrim. Could it spread to my blood? I have afib. Could it cause heart trouble? Now that it s been diagnosed I have to go back in 3 or4 weeks to be retested. Am I contagious? Not much has been explained. Kevin. YYYY@YYYY
Antibiotics of choice in MRSA for skin and soft tissue infections are trimethoprim- sulphmethoxazole TMP-SMX, tetracycline, clindamycin. For invasive infections, Vancomycin is the drug of choice. Yet, it is to be given intravenous. Linezolid is also very effective in invasive infections of MRSA. It can be given oral.
There are number of options for MRSA please don't worry. As it's a sinus infection, there is less chance of spread into bloodstream. You may be contagious when the infection is active. Once you start antibiotic, you become very less contagious.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
