Can MDMA Or Cannabis Be Used While On Metronidazole?

I have a mate on metronidazole for an sti and we know that alcohol is not allowed and if taken can be dangerous but what Mandy (mdma) and also cannabis? Its just that there s a huge party and we all know being the only sober one sucks! So can I please be advised on the safety of mixing this? Will it be as bad as alcohol?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA)/ecstasy can interfere rarely with Metronidazole. In some cases it caused serotonin syndrome. So its better to either finish the course of Metronidazole and take MDMA or avoid metronidazole while taking MDMA. Same with Cannabis. Keep Alcohol away.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Melita Wesley,
