Hello. Thank you for writing to us. The goal of treatment after a second degree burn is to prevent secondary bacterial infection of raw skin till new skin forms. I suggest you to continue with the ointment for a week Or till the wound is completely covered with new skin. You may use the ointment as a thin film to cover the whole affected area. Use it at least twice daily. Don t let the wound get wet too often and restrict your household duties for a week. Though you may clean the wound with either soap water, once daily Or you may also use a sterile gauze dipped in betadine solution and wipe it gently to remove any adherent debris. If I was the treating doctor I would have also suggest a course of an oral antibiotic e.g amoxycillin or cephalexin for a week, as a prophylaxis for secondary bacterial infection. Regards
