Hi, I am 52 years old, have 2 grownup children (24 & 27 years old) from previous marriage. I am now trying to have another child, however over the course of past 5 years, all attempts with few different partners have failed. Any special reason why? Thx - MPP
The first question is, are you getting your menses at this age? Usually at the age of 52, most of the women are in their menopause. Menopause is a condition when the woman is almost exhausted of her eggs and is retired from her reproductory function. Therefore they do not get menses. Even if you are menstruating, your egg formation could have ceased. If so, the pregnancy will not take place.
If you are menstruating, you may get your ultrasonography done to evaluate whether you are still forming the eggs or not. If you have stopped forming eggs, you cannot become pregnant. Even if you are forming eggs, the quality of the eggs at this age is substandard. The babies from such eggs may be abnormal.
Please take the decision only after proper counselling from the Obstetrician & Gyanecologist.
