Can HIV Be Contracted Through Unprotected Sexual Intercourse?

Please help three years ago I had a brief unprotected sexual encounter with a man it lasted 5 minutes before I asked him to pull out, he did not cum. 2 weeks later I came down with a fever which lasted 4 hours then aching muscles blocked nose painful sinuses, my sister seemed to contract this from me afterwards but nonetheless I fell into a terrified state of belief that my symptoms were hiv related. I became so convinced I was infected I almost had a panic attack, and in the wake of such worry I got mouth ulcers which just added to my anxiety to follow was months of fatigue and I have since spent the last 3 years of my life a shell of my previous self. I can t tell anyone except my sister and I don t have the courage to get tested. I cry myself to sleep every night

Hi,

I would say that the chance of getting HIV infection three years after exposure is very rare. I would suggest you to get yourself tested in order to relieve your anxiety. You have not mentioned whether the sexual partner had any symptoms or was diagnosed with HIV infection. You can try to know the health status of that person.

HIV testing can be done confidentially and do not worry about anyone revealing your results other than the concerned person.Extreme secrecy will be maintained by health care professionals.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
