Hi..my friend recently got pricked/poked by a sewing needle in a saloon.not sure if the needle poked anyone before,.i think the needle had been used to connect hair(weaves) in the saloon.there was no blood coming out from the poke/prick..I was just wondering if hiv could have been passed ?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Even though there has not been any blood oozing from the needle prick, there are remote or nil chances of getting HIV from the issue as HIV particles do not survive outside the human body for a prolonged period of time after detachment from the body.

Still, it is always better to remove the doubt with 4th generation advanced HIV test in the lab.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
