Can Femilon Be Taken Along With Petodec?

Hi,I am 25 years old. My height is 5 2 . And my weight is 57 kgs. I got married few months back.My periods are irregular so my gynec has prescribed me Femilon for 5-6 months. My periods started on 8th Sept. 2011 and I was given a course for curing probable pelvis infection from 13th to 15th Sept 2011 (Tab. Monocef & Tab. Enzoflem - twice a day each for 3 days and Cap. Pantodec DSR - once for five days). However, The doctor told me to start my first pack of femilon from my 9th day of periods which is from today 16th Sept 2011. Still I have to take 2 capsules of Pantodec till tomorrow. So I want to know if I can take femilon along with Pantodec for 2 days. And also if there are any chances of getting pregnant if I start Femilon? Should I and my husband use any other precautions during first week of taking femilon? Or should I wait till the next period comes and then start femilon? Please help me. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

You can start to take your first oral contraceptive pill during the first 24 hours of your menstrual period and no backup contraceptive method is required if your oral contraceptive pill is started the first day of the menstrual cycle. Usually oral contraceptive pills are near about 99% effective at preventing pregnancy if someone takes it without any break. But it may take up to 7 days for the oral contraceptive pill to become effective in preventing pregnancy. During this period of time, you should use another form of birth control methods like condoms. Again, Femilon contains both ethinyl estradiol and desogestrel that is used in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies from unprotected sexual intercourses. On the other hand, Pantodec contains pantoprazole that is used as antiulcerants. There is no known interaction has seen between Femilon and Pantodec while they are used together. So you can take Femilon along with Pantodec.

Take care. Hope I have answered your questions. Let me know if I can assist you further.
