Can Depakote, Zoloft And Prozac Be Taken Together?

I have a son with autism who is currently taking Haldol, Guanfacine, Depakote, Zoloft and Prozac on a daily basis. His aggression is very up and down and I’m wondering if there could be any drug interaction that could be causing these issues. Your response is greatly appreciated. Reg

Hello,

It's not safe to take Depakote, Zoloft, and Prozac, together.

1. Taking Depakote together with Zoloft, Haldol or Guanfacine may increase the side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating. He may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medicines.

2. Taking Haldol together with Zoloft can increase the risk for an irregular heart rhythm that may be serious and potentially life threatening. Your son may be more susceptible if he has a heart condition called congenital long QT syndrome, other cardiac diseases, conduction abnormalities, or electrolyte disturbances (for example, magnesium or potassium loss due to severe or prolonged diarrhea or vomiting).

3. Prozac may increase the blood levels and side effects of Haldol. Your may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by his doctor to safely use both medicines.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
