Can Coumadin 8mg Increase The INR Level Drastically?
I have a cerebral sinus vein thrombosis post partum 4 months. On Coumadin for 3 weeks with a dose of 7.5mg. My last inr was 2.5 this past Thursday and yesterday my INR went down to 1.9. Family doctor called today to increase coumadin to 8mg. I m afraid it s too much coumadin cause maybe it was something I ate over the weekend. Should I be worried if my dose is now 8mg? Would it increase my INR level drastically?
A dose change from 7.5 mg to 8 mg is quite minor and unlikely to cause drastic changes in the INR level in a short period of time. I would recommend you to use the drug as the doctor already told you and do the regular monitoring of INR as instructed. This should keep you safe.
The doctor will need to do changes in the dose of Coumadin to reach a certain level of INR which is the desired level according to your condition. This is so that you can have the proper therapeutic effect and the best benefit from the treatment.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
