Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I hurt my shoulder about a month ago lifting a garage door when I lost power. At the time I knew it would be sore for a few days but it continued to gradually get worse until last week when I couldn t take it anymore. I saw my doctor last Thursday. She prescribed salsalate that I took until Tuesday of this week when I had a severe nose bleed. Was unable to reach my doctor so I called my pharmacy who suggested discontinuing or reducing the dose. I am scheduled for a cortisone injection. next Tuesday. Do you think I should go through with it?
I've read your query and I understand your concern
I would like to tell you that Lowest effective dose of Salisiate should be taken for minimum days to avoid complications. High dose can cause abdominal effects, GI bleed, Nausea and other side effects.
You should stop using it or reduce the dose to lower risk . Cortisone and Salisilate increases each other's toxicity by pharmacodynamic synergism. It can cause abdominal bleed.
It's advisable for you to take cortisone injection under medical supervision.
Hopefully this will answer your query Wish You Good Luck
