Can Celexa Be Taken While On Suboxone?

Hi im currently on Suboxone, I was prescribed celexa because I have extremely bad panic attacks. I used to take it awhile back but im scared to start it again after seeing that it can cause your heart to stop while sleeping. Is this true? Or is it safe to take celexa while im taking Suboxone?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Celexa is a brand name of popular drug Citalopram, it’s a relatively safe drug and side effects are very minimal. The cardiac issue you are concerned is something called “QT prolongation” is extremely rare and only few cases have been reported till date. It is seen in patients who had taken large doses of Citalopram. So it is not recommended to take more than 50 mg per day. You can safely take Suboxone along with Celexa. No drug interactions have been reported.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
