Can Bystolic And Diltiazem Be Taken Together?

I am taking 3 drugs for high blood pressure: Diltiazem 360mg, Valsartan 320mg and Hydroclorothiazide 25mg. Recently , my provider gave me for free, Bystolic (nebivolol) 10mg/tablet (Professional sample. Not to be sell). Now, when I surfed on the internet, the says , some where In drugs Interactions : Bystolic can exacerbate the effects of myocardial depressant or inhibitors of AV conduction, such as certain calcium antagonists ( particularly of the phenylalkylamine [verapamil] and benzothiazepine [diltiazem] classes), or antiarrhythmic agents , such as disopyramide. My question is : Can I tak Bystolic (nebivolol) 10 mg tablet when I am tanking, for many years, Diltiazem? Thanks for your help.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It needs careful monitoring while taking these two medications together.

Taking Bystolic and Diltiazem together may exacerbate myocardial depressant effects of Diltiazem ( a phenylethylamine calcium channel antagonist) and that can lead to increased side effects such as fatigue, headache, fainting, swelling of the extremities, weight gain, shortness of breath, chest pain, increased or decreased heartbeat, or irregular heartbeats.

If you take both medications together, you should consult your doctor if you have any of these symptoms. You may need a dose adjustment or need your blood pressure checked more often to safely use both medications.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
