General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Betametasone cream is not advisable for the dark spots following insect bites. Betamethasone is a steroid which can cause harmful effects on the skin like burning sensation, thinning of the skin, bruising, discoloration, prominent blood vessels (telangiectasias), and abnormal hair growth. I would rather advise you to use creams containing hydroquinone, kojic acid, glycolic acid or tretinoin. These medicines are often used in combination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
