Can Azithromycin Be Taken While Trying To Conceive?

Hello, i am sick with cough and was prescriped antibiotics, Azithromycin 250 mg. But the problem is we are trying to become pregnant, i am in the 16 day of my period. I have PCOS . So my period is not regular at all. But this period was naturally, after 5 months that I didn t get any period. In case I am finaly had ovulation and maybe be pregnant now (first days) , is this medicine is safe to take? Or it is better not to take it if you are trying to become pragnant. Worry because I will know if pregnant or now only in two weeks from now, because it is only 16th day of my period cycle. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear Ma'am, Hi & Welcome.
I can understand your concern regarding the safety of the prescribed medication Azithromycin by your doctor.

Azithromycin is a commonly used antibiotic to treat susceptible infection during pregnancy. It is a FDA category B pregnancy drug that means animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus.
Hence, it is safe for pregnant women so it may be taken as prescribed by your treating doctor.

Hope this will solve your problem.
Best wishes.
A feed back is appreciated.
