Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. Over the last 2 weeks I have been taking aropax paraoxetine 20mg for anxiety. Last 4 days I have had consistent blood noses I know from reading this medication can cause rare blood issues. I do have a habit of over blowing my nose which could irritate it. I was prescribed today to take otocomb otic to see if it helps. And to continue my aropax because the last thing I want to do is take a step back with my anxiety. Is this a good idea? Andrew
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Otocomb is a combination of antibiotics and a steroid that is mostly used in the case of otitis externa (ear infection). It does not have a primary indication for nose problems. In any case there is no contraindication of taking otocomb with paroxetine so you can take both at the same time. You are right related to anxiety issues, it is not good to stop paroxetine unless severe allergy reactions to it because the moment you stop it anxiety symptoms may come back even stronger than before. Paroxetine is generally reduced gradually till it is completely stopped in 2-3 months time period and this is done if the patient is clinically stable for 6-12 months and wants to try to reduce and stop use of paroxetine. So to conclude: I am not sure otocomb is the best treatment for nose problems as it is an ear drop - paroxetine and otocomb can be taken together without any major contraindication - it is good you are cautious to stop paroxetine as it should not be stopped abruptly unless in cases of severe allergy.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Antoneta Zotaj
