Broken Tooth. Had Root Canal. Unable To Have A Bridge. Is Tooth Implant Essential?

I had a root canal to my two upper back teeth but was not told about having a crown. Now my tooth has broken below the gum line and my dentist says I need a tooth implant. Can't have a bridge as the last tooth which also had the root canal is not strong enough to have the bridge attached.
I have had my broken tooth temporarily repaired. Is there anyhing else that can be done to save the tooth.
I'm concerned about the implant as I have heard that they can get infected and are much harder to look after that one's own teeth.
I will need to see a periodontist.

Dear friend.

Thanks for posting your query here.

There are two options, as far as your dental treatment is concerned.

one is you can go for post and core. This is done, if adequate root support is there.

A canal is prepared in the root, similar as done earlier for root canal but of larger dimension and then a metallic post and core is given.upon which a crown can be given. This is done by your endodontist.(specialist in root canal).

The second option is dental implant. But all patients are not considered suitable for implants.

It requires very healthy bone and supporting tissues. You need to see your periodontist first to get the gum tissue examined. If found favorable, you can meet your oral surgeon for further treatment with implants.

The treatment duration is more and cost is also little high. Therefore now the choice is yours.

you can get yourself examined and choose the best option.

For any further help please write to us.

Hope it helps.

Thanks.

Take care.

Hello! Welcome to HCM foum. As per your history a RCT treated molar(?) tooth is broken below gum line. It all depends how far below the tooth structure is present below gum line. If it is within 2 mm, if your RCT is done correctly and if your tooth having a good bone support; post retained crown can be done. Of course it will depend upon the expertise of the dentist. You can consult a restorative dentist or a conservative dentist. Your dentist is correct, for dental bridge you need to have a strong support from the neighboring teeth. Regarding Implant, your idea is not correct. If the implant is done properly, Implant related Periodontitis( Peri implantitis) is practically a rare occurrence. You have to maintain your oral hygiene to keep the implant in a good state and it is not a big deal. Not necessarily a periodontist, you should consult a dentist who has a good experience in doing implants. Hope I have answered your query. Stay well.

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

As the tooth is root canal treated and bridge cannot be placed you can go for post and core, consult an Endodontist for the opinion.
Placement of implant depends upon health of the surrounding structures. The cost of the treatment is also high i would suggest you to visit Periodontist get the checkup done and discuss the matter.

Hope this helps out.

thank you for the query
dear you sound to be worried but i think you should consult endodontist because since you have done root canal treatment done you can ofcourse go for a bridge even if its broken below gum line. they can do post and core and save your tooth remnant.any tooth which is still healthy can be used for bridge attachment so get your last tooth also examined to use it for a bridge attachment.the broken tooth should repeired permanently as soon as possible dear otherwise it can break further. implants are good but costly ,technique sensitive and ofcouse requires good bone support. i think if post core can be done that will be a better option for you.
take care.hoping for your best health and spirit..
