Are Stiffness And Pain In The Knees And Feet A Side Effect Of Treatment For Gout?

On Oct 4th, I developed a nasty gout attack which also affected my knees. For a week and a half couldn t move. Went to urgent care and got it taken care of. Feeling much better now, but knees feel stiff and feet ache. Is this a side effect of the condition and if so what can I do to improve the knees and feet? I have soaked them in Epsom salt and hot water. Any other ideas to help me get back mobility to 100%?

Hello,

I understand that you have been diagnosed with gout arthritis. So that means you have a more levels of the uric acid. So first foremost thing is to control the levels of the uric acid and for which you have to follow the medications provided by the expert. Next coming to the secondary effects which you are having is the pain and stiffness at the knee and the blow portion of it.

This is common as due to Gout, there will be changes in the gait (walking pattern) which will lead to abnormal transfer of the stress on the muscles of the leg, especially the anterior and lateral compartment of the leg. which will lead to abnormal knee biomechanics and led to stress and strain on the ligaments of the knee joint leading to the symptoms which you are suffering as - pain and stiffness. A proper exercises to improve the Gait and muscle endurance is of utmost importance along with control of the uric acid through medications.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
