Are Pain Medications Advisable For Children With Tooth Pain?
I brought my three year old to the dentist today due to an apparent abscessed tooth. It's his back right molar, and he's in a ton of pain. All she did was prescribed the zpack, and didn't give him anything for pain. She can't get him in to take care of tooth for two weeks. Can dentists not give young children pain meds?
As per your complain as your son has a dental abscess that occurs due to pus formation below the root tips of the infected tooth caused due to spread of infection below the root tips of the tooth via root canals.. It causes generation of severe pressure and cause pain.. Antibiotics will however reduce infection but to relieve pain you need to get pain relieving medication or pain killers and for toddlers you can get it in syrup forms for ease of administration.. Consult a Pedodontist and get her evaluated and he/she can advise pain relieving syrups like Ibuprofen oral suspension etc for relief.. A root canal treatment of the tooth can also be done for permanent relief..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora
