Are Mood Swings, panic Attack And Lack Of Focus Indications Of ADD?

I have read about ADD from several websites. I think that i do have ADD. I would be grateful if you would help me know if i have it.Here are some issues i face.-I always lose concentration when someone talks to me.- My mood changes alot, one day i am happy and bouncy. Then at times i feel so nervous frustrated and depressed as if that happy person never exsisted.-I always forget my words when i talk, i noticed that i never finished my senstences correctly and i pause alot. I could say i get a bit nervous when i talk.-When i read, i could read the whole book and realise that i was not focusing. When i read out loud for people i would never focus on the information im reading.- I am slow. since i used to be in university i used to start my projects ahead of time because i know that i would require more time than the rest of the mates. 2 days ago i got fired from my job because i was slow and i dont pay too much attention to details. i was also told that i am forgetful.I got some people before telling me that i need to learn how to get to my point faster when i talk.- I am basically not very social. And my family keeps telling.me i need to work on my social skills. And im trying but I cant find anything to say.-I always panic and feel nervous about everything and i feel like giving up. For example since i got fired, i feel really worried abt looking for a new job. If someone asks me to do somthing i keep thinking to my self am i going to do it right this time?- Deep down i know i am smart and i have what it takes. Really good things may come out of me. But i require more time than the rest of the people and it frustrates me when everyone tells me i am a slow person. I try to ignore them and do my best but im not willing to get fired anymore. I am smart and i do not want to get my selfesteem lower than that.- I dont feel like i have the ability to take my own decisions anymore. I am always confused and i keep asking people what i should do. People are really getting bored of me and they tell me i ask too many questions. I find it really difficult to find answers even in the silliest cases that should not matter.I really hope you can reply to my concerns and let me know if this is ADD.I would like to also know what procedures you take to find out if i have ADD.Thank you for your time and consideration and i look forward to hearing from you.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I have read the details provided in query and I can understand your concern. If we consider ADD then in attention deficit disorder issues related to poor attention, hyperactivity and impulsivity are seen. Though in a number of domains you have mentioned that you loose focus and have poor concentration but in my opinion these symptoms are occurring due to distractibility. Distractibility, poor focus, inability to finish tasks, lack of concentration, lack of social skill, lack of confidence, frequent mood changes, frustration, depressed mood etc symptoms suggest some depressive disorder rather than ADD. To make proper diagnosis evaluation by a psychiatrist should be done.

For lack of focus, poor concentration, distractibility medicines like stimulants can be used. Amphetamines especially Dexamphetamine, Methylphenidate etc are commonly used. These drugs are helpful in both ADD as well as in depression. These drugs have high abuse potential so should be used in proper supervision only. For loss of focus and mood changes some antidepressants like Fluoxetine, Tianeptine etc can be used. These medicines help to improve day to day functioning and will reduce the depressive symptoms also. Visit a psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs.

Apart from this I'd also advise you to take multivitamin supplements containing vitamin E and B12. This will help to improve the focus.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
