Are Medicines Advisable For Elevated A1C And Glucose Levels?

My A1C is 6.6 and my glucose is 139 fasting. I have an appointment with the doctor in two weeks. Will I need medication to lower my `A1C level and glucose, or can I do it with diet and exercise? I know that diabetes 2 is a potentially serious disease, but at this point, am I in the mild range or severe range? Will I ever be able to eat ice cream, cake, cookies on occasion?

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
Yes Hb1AC level of 6.6 & fasting blood sugar of 139 is slightly high & shows you are prone to be having diabetes or you have mild diabetes. Yes medicine like metformin 500mg extended release once a day is advised to you.
You should make changes in diet such as reduction in foods which have high sugar content such as ice cream, cake, cookies, candies, etc. You should take whole grains instead of processed meals. Heavy meals are also to be avoided. You should exercise daily for 30 minutes. Ice cream, cake, cookies can be taken on occasion.

Refer to your physician
Hope this helps
