Are Irregular Periods Genetic?

Yes doctor, I would like to talk to a gynecologist. I am 14 but have had very irregular menstrual problems, I skip months or just weeks, or even sometimes get my cycle every two weeks. I realise that it can take 2 to 3 years for a menstrual cycle to fully adapt on a regular basis. Although my mom and I suffer from this, she has told me many times that it runs gynetically.
