Are Extreme Muscle Spasms In Upper Abdomen A Cause For Concern?

My son is having extreme muscle spasms in his upper abdomen that will not stop. It s causing him to become very short of breath. He did go to the ER but they could not find a cause and sent him home. There is a heart condition in the family that has cause his uncle and two cousins to die around his age. I am very worried.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello

Thanks for asking a question at HCM

I understand your concern and I will be glad to answer it for you.

Did he get evaluated completely for heart?

If not,
I advise to undergo

1. Stress test
2. Echocardiography
3. Lipid profile

The tests will let us know if heart is funcioning well. If these reportsare normal, we need to evaluate the cause of muscle spasms and you need to meet a neurologist.

Hope this helps!

Best Regards
Dr Chaithanya
