Are Condoms Totally Safe To Prevent Pregnancy?

Hi doc.I had protected sex on 18th and he used a condom . I will get my period on 2nd but I don t want to wait for that long to know if I could be pregnant or not. I ve heard that condoms are not totally safe in preventing pregnancy. What precautions can I take now to avoid getting pregnant? Should I take the morning pill ? Or using the condom is enough and now I won t get pregnant?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hello,
i can understand your concern.
no contraceptive method is 100% fool proof. there is a certain amount of failure rate in each method.
if the condom was used properly and it didn't slip away and there wasn't any semen which entered you body you need not worry about getting pregnant. if you aren't sure about it, i would suggest levonorgestral 75 mg tablet if 72 hrs haven't passed since the intercourse. do not worry you should get your periods on time. in case you do not get the periods do write to us for further measures. hope you are satisfied with the response. thanks for choosing HCM.
