Are Blood Clots On Thighs Of A Brain Cancer Patient A Matter Of Concern?

I have a sister-in-law that has been diagnosed with brain cancer and they cannot help with any more treatment. Today I went to take her lunch and noticed bruises on her thighs and when I felt them there were knots associated with them from the size of aa golf ball to a small marble I am concerned she has blood clots she is confused and wont call the advice nurse at Kaiser. I think she should go to the emergency room but she does not seem to be concerned. Do you agree?

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Bruises in a patient of brain cancer could be due to low platelet counts secondary to bone marrow infiltration by cancer cells. On the contrary it could be due to just trauma on the thigh. I suggest you to consult your treating doctor for complete blood counts and assessment of the bruise site.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
