Are Back Pain And Constipation The Side Effects Of Anastrozole?

I started taking Anastrozole about a month ago. Initially I had no problems other some mild nausea. This week I m terribly constipated and have bad back pain and generally don t feel well. Is this normal for these side effects to start after this length of time? What can I do about the back pain which interferes with my sleep?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Anastrozole can lead to nausea, stomach pain, allergy reaction, headache etcetera like side effects. This drug can decrease bone density, and so bone pain can occur because of osteoporosis. So your back pain can be from osteoporosis. Arthritis of vertebra and obesity also can lead back pain. Your serum calcium and vitamin D level can be checked, and a local part x-ray is done for primary work up. Consult orthopedic surgeon for examination and discuss your management plan.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
