Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am having Shingles for a month now. I have had a course of the Valtrex anti viral, and also Lyrica for pain. A friend gave me these Salonpas patches to try, but I see many comments about how they can burn. I have pain now mostly under my arm and on the outside of my breast. Should I try these patches on such a sensitive area? My lesions have faded, but I still have swelling there.
It is possible that you may burn but it is also possible that you may not have a negative reaction at all.
Salonpas contains mentol and methyl salicylate. As with oral medications, the individual response can also vary for topical medications, what irritates one persons, does nothing to another. What you can do, if possible , is to use a very small piece of the patch and apply it to a small area of skin to note if you have any problems.
If there are no problems then you can use it on a wider area.
I hope this helps
