Are Propanolol, Rivotril And Fluoxetine Good For POTS?

Hello Doctor,

Im suffering from Pots aince 3 years ago. Now my symptoms are very debilitating cause i can't stand for much long. The doctor has prescribed 5 mg Propanolol 2 times a day, 10g of fluoxetine in the morning and 4 drops of Rivotril to help me sleep. I dont feel any difference, and acrually have felt more weak. Is this a good choice of treatment?

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. You have POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) since last 3 years. The doctor has prescribed Propranolol 5 mg twice a day, Fluoxetine 10 and Rivotril or Clonazepam. Propranolol is a beta blocker drug and the drug can help to control the rapid heart rate. If the symptoms are persisting with 10 mg per day doses then in my opinion the doses should be increased to at least 20-40 mg per day. These doses would help to control the symptoms.

Fluoxetine and Clonazepam both are helpful in controlling anxiety symptoms. These drugs can control any associated anxiety with POTS. In my opinion this is a right choice of treatment.

Thanks, I hope this helps you.
Take care
