Are Olmesartan Medoxomil A Good Alternative Of Benicar HCT?

My husband has been taking Benicar HCT 40-25mg for years. The insurance will only pay for the generic now that it is available. I picked it up from the pharmacy today and it is Olmesartan Medoxomil, Amlodipine and Hydrochlorothiazide 40mg/5mg/25mg. It has an extra ingredient so I m not sure it is the right generic I m sorry, I ve decided to call my doctor tomorrow. Thanks anyway

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

I would explain that it is true that there is another anti-hypertensive drug (amlodipine) in this new composed drug.

For this reason, the switch in this new medication may lead to low blood pressure.

I recommend discussing with your doctor on this issue.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
