Are Ascoril LS And Ascoril LS+ The Same?

Hi This is Avirup. My 5 years son was having cough from last 2.5 weeks and his pediatric consultant Dr. B.K Monocha gave him Ascoril LS but yesterday when I went to buy the medicine they gave me Ascoril LS+ and also informed me that both are same. Is this the correct information they provided to me?

Hi Avirup,
Ascoril LS is a combination of levosalbutamol, ambroxol hydrochloride and guaiphenesin. There are two brands available with this combination
1) Ascoril LS + having levosalbutamol (1mg), ambroxol hydrochloride (30mg) and guaiphenesin (50mg)
2) Ascoril LS having levosalbutamol (0.5mg), ambroxol hydrochloride (15mg) and guaiphenesin (50mg)
(amount per 5ml)
As you can see both the brands have same ingredients but Ascoril LS+ has double the amount of levosalbutamol and ambroxol hydrochloride than Ascoril LS EXP.
Though I can advice you to reduce the dose of Ascoril LS+ to half of what is prescribed, I would recommend you to clarify with your pediatrician on which dose would be best for your son. As the dosages are weight based, it's not possible to say anything based on age. Do take the drug as prescribed only. I hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic.
